Canada Goose fur ban & Heritage hoods: how to check fit for a real coyote trim

Following Canada Goose's transition away from purchasing new fur at the end of 2021 and ending fur manufacturing at the end of 2022, owners of Chilliwack, Expedition, Wyndham, Langford, Carson, Shelburne, Rossclair, Trillium and Kensington parkas face two distinct scenarios: replacing a worn or missing ruff on a Heritage hood that already carries a zipper track, or checking whether a newer furless hood has any attachment hardware at all. This guide explains how to inspect your hood before ordering an independent natural coyote or fox replacement trim.

By Fur Replacement

How Heritage fur-trimmed hoods differ from newer non-fur hoods

Across retail and resale markets, the same model name—such as Wyndham, Langford, Chilliwack, Shelburne or Rossclair—appears in both older fur-trimmed versions (often sold as Heritage editions) and newer versions manufactured without fur. A model name on the inside label never proves by itself that a hood carries a trim zipper. Always inspect the outer rim of your hood first to see whether a half-zipper track is sewn along the brim.

  • Check the outer hood brim for a concealed or exposed zipper track.
  • Note whether your garment label or receipt identifies a Heritage or non-Heritage version.
  • Do not assume two parkas sharing the same model name use identical hood hardware.

Replacing a worn or missing trim on a hood with an existing zipper

If your parka originally came with a detachable ruff that has become sparse, matted, damaged or lost, the hood-side half of the zipper normally remains stitched to the garment. Measure along that zipper track from one end stop to the other in centimetres with the hood lying flat and relaxed. Photograph both zipper ends so the tooth gauge and slider orientation can be checked before your replacement collar is prepared.

  • Measure the zipper line on the relaxed hood in centimetres, not the old fur tips.
  • Photograph the insertion pin or starter box at each end of the hood zipper.
  • Include the style code from the interior garment tag along with your coat size.

What if your newer parka hood has no zipper or fastening?

Parkas manufactured purely as non-fur designs often have a clean fabric or wire-brim tunnel hood with no zipper half attached. Ordering a single-sided replacement trim will not allow it to zip directly onto a bare fabric rim. If your hood has no fastening hardware, tell us before ordering: adding a detachable ruff to a furless hood requires installing a complete two-part zipper assembly or having a tailor attach the mating track to the hood.

  • Inspect the entire hood perimeter to confirm whether any fastener is present.
  • Request a fit review before ordering if your hood has a bare fabric edge.
  • Ask about two-part zipper options before making any alteration to your coat.

Comparing natural coyote, arctic fox and optional shaping wire

Our independent replacement trims are crafted by Fur Replacement and are not original manufacturer service parts. Customers restoring a parka hood can choose between natural coyote fur, white or silver fox fur, raccoon fur, or faux fur, and can select optional metal shaping wire or fur tone preferences where offered on the product listing.

  • Review the exact material and finish described on the selected product page.
  • Consider optional metal shaping wire if you want a structured tunnel-hood opening.
  • Remember that natural pelts vary organically in guard-hair shading and density.

Checklist before placing your Canada Goose trim order

Gather three facts before selecting your option on the product page: the exact model name from the inside label, the measured attachment length in centimetres along the relaxed hood, and clear daylight close-ups of both fastening ends. Sending these details whenever the fit is uncertain prevents mismatches between different production eras.

  • Confirm model name, hood attachment length in cm, and zipper end construction.
  • Compare Shelburne, Rossclair, Wyndham, Langford, Chilliwack and Expedition fit pages.
  • Contact our team with hood photographs if the original ruff is missing.
