Fur and the brand
Does Canada Goose still use fur?
No. Canada Goose stopped buying new fur in 2022 and the current range leaves the factory without a ruff. If you bought your jacket before the switch, yours still has one, and it can be replaced when it dies. If you bought a new one, the hood never had fur to begin with.

1957–2021
Coyote ruff on almost every parka and bomber. It was a working part: a windbreak around the face, not decoration.
2022
Canada Goose stops buying new fur and moves the range to recycled and reclaimed fur, then drops it from the line.
2022–2025
New jackets ship without a ruff. Second-hand market grows, and so does the number of jackets sold without their trim.
Now
Owners of older jackets replace a damaged ruff themselves. Owners of new jackets add one to get the old look back.
What “fur-free” actually means
It means the brand stopped buying new coyote. It does not mean the ruffs already on millions of jackets vanished. Those jackets are still in wardrobes, still going through washing machines, and the trim is still the first part to fail. A coat that has lost its ruff to a dryer is not a ruined coat, and a jacket bought second-hand without the trim is not a bargain if the hood looks bald.
Canada Goose warranty does not cover dryer damage, and the part is no longer sold on most models. A replacement has to be cut to the hood you own.
Which models had a coyote ruff
These seven did, across the year ranges below. All use a two-way zip at a fixed gauge, so a generic strip will not seat. Measure the rim flat and match the slider type.
| Model | Years with fur | Fastening |
|---|---|---|
| Chilliwack Bomber | 2015–2024 | 2-way zip |
| Expedition Parka | 2014–2024 | 2-way zip |
| Langford Parka | 2016–2023 | 2-way zip |
| Wyndham Parka | 2015–2024 | 2-way zip |
| Carson Parka | 2016–2022 | 2-way zip |
| Trillium Parka | 2015–2023 | 2-way zip |
| Kensington Parka | 2016–2024 | 2-way zip |
What owners do now
- Older jacket, melted or matted ruff: replace it with a coyote collar cut to the measured rim.
- New jacket, no fur: add the trim if you want the pre-2022 look back.
- Second-hand jacket sold without the ruff: check the fastening before buying, then order the length.
- Thin factory faux on another brand: upgrade to real coyote or a dense faux, same method.
Does it have to be coyote?
No. Coyote is what the original was and what holds warmth best, but raccoon gives more volume and faux survives rain. All three mount on the same zip gauge if you cut to the measured rim, so the material is a taste and climate call, not a fit call.
